150,000 new 'flight attendants' take off for the FTI GROUP

FTI is buzzing: From June 2018, the GROUP will sponsor three colonies of bees, thus making a contribution to environmental protection. A beekeeper looks after Maja & Co. who live on the roof of the company headquarters.

Sustainability and environmental protection are of high concern for Europe's fourth largest tour operator FTI. The group is already an active member of the Futouris sustainability initiative and makes decisive contributions to the further development of green tourism in the areas of hotel operation, food waste and animal welfare. In addition, the tour operator offers its customers a variety of deals for environmentally conscious holidaymakers, from the labelling of sustainable hotels in the FTI catalogues (and now also in all booking systems as part of the “Green Travel Transformation”) to voluntary CO2 compensation payments and resource-saving catalogue printing.

Now the FTI GROUP is taking the next step and taking on eco-social responsibility at the headquarters with a sponsorship of three bee colonies. "We are working with the award-winning Munich start-up nearBees as part of a bee sponsorship," explains Ralph Schiller, FTI GROUP Managing Director. "We will give three colonies of about 50,000 bees each a new home on a closed roof terrace of our corporate headquarters in the west of Munich. Supervised by a state-certified beekeeper and 50 volunteer godparents from the FTI staff, our new diligent employees are close to the surrounding gardens and parks and can copiously pollinate flowers, collect nectar and produce honey. We hope to make a small but valuable contribution for our environment and against bee deaths." Viktoria Schmidt, hobby beekeeper and co-founder of nearBees, can only agree: "We are very pleased with the cooperation with FTI Touristik. Our concept 'honey from next door' is a way of bringing beekeepers and honey lovers together in an uncomplicated way and at the same time contributing to the preservation of a species-rich neighbourhood. Although honey can be imported from all over the world, the pollination of plants by bees cannot. Monocultures and pesticides make it difficult for bees in many rural environments, so sponsorship in the city is an ideal alternative".

FTI will use the honey in its staff restaurants and as a small gift for partners. The tour operator inaugurates the branded hives humorously: "We have christened the beehives 'FTI GROUP Flight Department'", Schiller announces with a smile and jokes: "We will then be the first major German tour organiser to have its own airline parked on the roof with a crew of 150,000 employees."
